Detection of a leakage on a storage site

Before refining or delivery, hydrocarbons are usually stored on a storage site. Tanks are installed outdoor in a restricted area. Groups of tanks are surrounded by little walls or pools to retain the oil in case of overflowing, leakage or any kind of accident during filling / emptying.
A draining of this area is built to avoid the accumulation of water under the tanks. When it is raining, the water gets away by this draining.
Usually, the output of this safety system is the perfect place to install an Oilspy water floating hydrocarbon leak detector.

Description of the floating oil spill detector

To avoid any « false alarm » due to the hydrocarbon’s residue on the floor which could be flushed by first rains, the Oilspy can be used with a membrane protector which retains spills of more than 2cm.
Thus, only important pollutions are detected and triggers off an alarm.
